Pritam Wins Best Composer Trophy For Ae Dil Hai Mushkil At Mirchi Music Awards
Pritam has started 2017 with a bang, taking home the most coveted trophy at the Mirchi Music Awards
Pritam Chakraborty was the man behind two of the most popular soundtracks of 2016, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Dangal. Naturally, the composer has swept the awards season, including the SpotboyE Salaam for Best Music for his score in the Ranbir Kapoor-Aishwarya Rai-Anushka Sharma starrer.
And on Saturday night, Pritam picked up the award for the Best Music Composer for Ae Dil Hai Mushkil at the Mirchi Music Awards.
Jonita Gandhi won the award for Best Vocalist Of The Year for the track Gilehriyaan from Dangal while Arijit Singh was named Best Singer for Ae Dil Hail Muskil.
Meanwhile Amitabh Bhattacharya received the Lyricist Of The Year trophy for the hit song Channa Mereya, from the same film.
The other awards included Upcoming Music Composer Of The Year, which was given away to the Swagger composer Tanishk Bagchi for his song Bolna from Kapoor & Sons. Haanikarak Bapu singers Sarwar and Sartaz Khan jointly received the trophy for Upcoming Male Singer Of The Year. Aziz Kaur received the award for Upcoming Female Singer Of The Year for her song Bolna.
The song Soch Na Sake from Airlift received the Listeners Choice Award.
Karan Johar received a Special Award for his contribution to Bollywood music and he was celebrated with a performance by Udit Narayan, composer Lalit Pandit, Pritam, Shaan and Sonu Nigam who performed hit songs from KJo’s films. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, Kuch Toh Hua Hai and Bole Chudiyan were among the songs which were performed by these artistes.
The hosts Sonu Nigam and Neha Bhasin left no stone unturned to make the show entertaining. At one point Sonu swapped duties with Karan and put the director on the hot seat . Karan was asked a few rapid fire questions. The director was asked to rate the singers and the options were Sukwinder Singh, Himesh Reshammiya, Mika Singh and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. Here was Karan’s ranking: Sukhwinder Singh, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Mika Singh and Himesh Reshammiya.
Same went for the female singers and the options were Sunidhi Chauhan, Shreya Ghoshal, Neeti Mohan and Monali Thakur to which the director answered : Shreya , Sunidhi, Neeti and Monali.
Karan was then asked to rate the same singers as per their make-up skills, to which the director answered: Sunidhi, Neeti, Monali, Shreya, amid loud cheers and laughter.
Armaan Mallik, Sukwinder Singh, Sonu Nigam, Papon, Shahid Mallya, Amit Mishra, Jonita Gandhi stole the show with their performances.
Other than the movers and shakers of the music scene, the awards were attended by Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, cricketer Virender Sehwag, Ramesh Sippy, Divya Khosla Kumar and Sana Khan among others.
